The second year of the F4 CEZ Championship is heading towards its finale at the Salzburgring for the first time. The renowned Austrian circuit will host three races over the weekend, where the championship will be decided. Local driver Oscar Wurz, representing Jenzer Motorsport, holds a commanding position in the race for the title.
Wurz has led the championship since the season opener at Balaton Park in April. Over the course of the season, he consistently outscored his rivals, building a comfortable lead. He now enters the final event with a 49-point advantage over second-place Kirill Kutskov from Maffi Racing and his teammate at Jenzer Motorsport, Max Karhan, who is 56 points behind Wurz.
However, with three races to go this weekend, there are still 75 points up for grabs, enough to shake up the final standings. While it would take a major upset for Wurz to lose his lead or the championship, motorsport is unpredictable, and nothing is certain until the points are finalised.
One of the most exciting battles of the weekend will likely be between Kutskov and Karhan for second place, with just five points separating them. Karhan outperformed Kutskov in the last three events at Brno, Most, and Slovakia Ring, but the Maffi Racing driver remains a strong contender for victory, as does Karhan.
Another competitor to watch is Czech driver Miroslav Mikeš from JMT Racing. Mikeš has already secured pole positions, race wins, and consistently battles for podium finishes. However, his participation in the final event is in doubt due to the recent floods that have severely impacted the Czech Republic.
The final event of the season won’t just be about these four drivers. There is plenty of talent throughout the field. AS Motorsport will once again field two cars, with Michalina Sabaj and Australian driver Joanne Ciconte, who debuted in Brno with impressive results. It will be interesting to see how Ciconte handles another new circuit, which she has yet to experience.
The third young woman in the field is Kornelia Olkucka from the Maffi Racing team. Alongside Kutskov, her other teammate will be Nathanael Berreby. Maffi Racing is one of two teams fielding three cars this weekend, the other being Jenzer Motorsport with Wurz, Karhan, and Teodor Borenstein. Borenstein is returning to the cockpit after his serious crash at Most. He will be testing the car at Salzburgring, with potential participation in the races.
Renauer Motorsport will be present with Simon Schranz, who made his debut in Brno, and will now race at his home track. The Czech team F4 CEZ Academy is preparing two cars for Marek Mičík and František Němec, who also debuted in Brno.
