Maksimilian Popov victorious in action-packed second race

PHM Racing dominated the second race of the F4 CEZ Championship at Red Bull Ring, with Maksimilian Popov defending his position from teammate Davide Larini. Kamal Mrad finished third.

The starting procedure didn’t go smoothly, and the full grid of Formula 4 cars was forced to complete another warm-up lap. When the red lights finally went off, Andrej Petrović stalled the engine from pole position and was very lucky not to be hit by the cars behind him. Davide Larini took the lead as Marek Mičík spun out at the exit of turn one.

The order in the top five during the opening laps was Davide Larini, Maksimilian Popov, Eney Frey, Kamal Mrad, and Oscar Wurz. However, the safety car was soon deployed because Nathanel Berreby spun out into the gravel.

After the restart, Larini kept the lead but was under pressure from his teammate Popov. Larini couldn’t defend his position and was even passed by another teammate, Mrad. The order in the top three was then Popov, Mrad, and Larini – all from PHM Racing.

Although Larini fought back to second place, Mrad was under pressure from Ethan Ischer in a black-blue Formula 4 car from Jenzer Motorsport, who led his teammates Frey and Wurz.

There were multiple battles throughout the field, with changing positions and minimal gaps between drivers. Andrej Petrović was moving up the order, and thanks to the safety car, he was soon in sixth place.

Just before the end of the race, there was a three-car clash between Kirill Kutskov, Wiktor Dobrzanski, and Jan Koller in turn four, and unfortunately, all of them had to retire.

But it didn’t change the results at the top, with Maksimilian Popov winning the second race of the F4 CEZ at Red Bull Ring, Davide Larini finishing second again, and Kamal Mrad securing the PHM Racing team’s domination on the Austrian track. Ethan Ischer from Jenzer Motorsport finished fourth, followed by his teammate Eney Frey.

Andrej Petrović moved up from 19th position after a bad start to finish in sixth place. Shimo Zhang from BVM Racing finished seventh, Oscar Wurz eighth, Luca Viisorenau ninth, and Miroslav Mikeš rounded out the top ten.
