The title means a lot, says newly crowned F4 champion Oscar Wurz

Austrian driver Oscar Wurz, from the Jenzer Motorsport team, clinched the F4 CEZ title on home soil at the Salzburgring. He finished all three races on the podium and maintained results consistency throughout the season, which earned him his first single-seater title.

Oscar, what does the title mean to you?
It means a lot to me. Obviously, it’s been a long year, a long season, and I’m really happy to have ended the season this way. It’s the best possible outcome. It also means a lot to me to win here in Austria, as an Austrian, in my home country, with my home fans and my family. It’s a really special feeling.

You led the championship since the opening event of the year at Balaton Park. But it wasn’t as easy as it might look, was it?
Yeah, I realised that early on. From the very first race, I led the championship until the very last race now. That’s been really cool. I’ve worked hard this season and I will work even harder in the future. This is just the beginning of my career, so I hope to win many more trophies and titles. Maybe once I retire, in the distant future, I’ll look back at this moment. It means a lot to win my first title in single-seaters, and I’m really happy.

What were your highs and lows during the season?
I’d say the first three rounds of the championship were really strong, especially Balaton and Slovakia Ring. Red Bull Ring was also solid, even though there were a lot more drivers. It was still quite a good race, a strong weekend overall. The first three rounds were definitely the highlight. The last few rounds were a bit more conservative. The high point of the season would probably be Race 2 at Slovakia Ring. I have been quickest in every session: practice, qualifying, winning Race 1 and the fastest lap. But in Race 2, I started from pole position, but stalled the engine at the start. However I still managed to fight my way back into the lead and won by a bigger margin than in Race 1, with the fastest lap again. That was probably the best moment of the season. The low point was likely when I crashed at Most. I was really fast in that race, so crashing was quite disappointing. Brno Race 1 wasn’t great either.

Do the lows and mistakes make you stronger?
Sure, stronger and also the lows definitely make the highs feel better.

What are your plans for next season?
Well, we haven’t confirmed anything yet, but we’ll most likely do F4 again next year. That’s the plan. This year has been a really good learning experience, and next year we hope for more exciting races. Hopefully, we can enter another competitive series and use the experience I’ve gained this year to help me in other F4 championships. We don’t know exactly which one yet, but I’ll probably stay in F4.
