The second season of the F4 CEZ series concluded at the Austrian circuit Salzburgring, where the sixth and final event of this year’s season took place. Oscar Wurz entered the weekend with a comfortable points lead and secured the championship title in the second race.
Wurz came into the weekend on home soil with a 49-point advantage over Kirill Kutskov. Although it was a solid lead, there were still 75 points up for grabs, and anything could happen at Salzburgring.
Wurz, therefore, didn’t take any unnecessary risks. It wasn’t worth fighting recklessly — the important thing was to collect points. However, as a racer, Wurz was determined to end the season with a victory. Kutskov led for most of the race 1, but Wurz was on his tail every lap. The two swapped places several times, but Kutskov always managed to defend and hold off Wurz. Following them closely was Max Karhan, waiting for his opportunity. In the end, they finished in the same order: Kutskov first, Wurz second, and Karhan third. With this win, Kutskov kept his mathematical chance for the title alive, cutting Wurz’s lead to 42 points. Karhan, with his third-place finish, solidified his third position in the drivers‘ standings.
The second race started off in the worst possible way for Wurz, as his engine stalled at the start, giving Kutskov an early lead once again. However, the Austrian driver quickly fought his way back up to second place, which was enough for him to confirm the championship title. Kutskov took the win again, with Wurz finishing second and Karhan once more in third.
By the third race, the championship standings were already settled. The top three drivers could push to the limit and take more risks since nothing could change their positions in the standings. Kutskov once again rocketed into the lead, followed closely by Karhan. The only driver ahead of them was Michalina Sabaj, who had started from pole position. However, the Polish driver made an error at the end of the first lap and went off track. The safety car was deployed, and once the race restarted, Karhan launched an attack on Kutskov. Although he briefly overtook him, Kutskov quickly reclaimed the lead. Karhan kept looking for an opportunity, but Kutskov was unbeatable at Salzburgring. Three starts, three victories. The final weekend of the 2024 F4 CEZ season was his.
Kutskov, Wurz, and Karhan dominated the podium across all the races. They shared the top three spots in every race in Austria. Meanwhile, there were fierce battles behind them, particularly between Sabaj, Nathanael Berreby, and Simon Schranz. This trio was closely matched, resulting in intense on-track fights. In the end, Schranz came out on top, finishing fourth twice and fifth once.
And so, the second season of the F4 CEZ series came to a close, proving its potential for the future and producing a crop of promising drivers, including several from the Czech Republic. Keep an eye on their careers, as they are certainly ones to watch.
