Oscar Wurz dominates F4, will he continue with it at home track of his competitiors?

Oscar Wurz, the youngest son of former F1 driver and 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Alex Wurz, leads the standings in the F4 CEZ halfway through the season with a significant margin. However, the competition is intensifying from Kirill Kutskov and also from two Czech drivers, Max Karhan and Miroslav Mikeš, who have high expectations for their home track Most, which will host the fourth round of the championship this weekend.

Championship leader Oscar Wurz, from Jenzer Motorsport, has won two races this year and holds a 67-point lead over Kirill Kutskov from Maffi Racing. In the three events held so far, twenty-two drivers have scored points, with seven different winners. Among them is Czech driver Max Karhan, who achieved a remarkable victory in the last event at Slovakia Ring. Karhan, Wurz’s teammate, saw Wurz win the first two races in Slovakia, while he claimed the third. The success for the Czech colours was further highlighted by Miroslav Mikeš from JMT Motorsport, who finished second in the second sprint.

The upcoming event at Most will be a home race for Karhan and Mikeš. They know the circuit inside out and excelled there last year in both dry and wet conditions. Expectations are therefore high. Karhan is currently third in the standings behind leader Wurz and second-placed Kutskov. Mikeš is just behind Karhan, trailing by only six points. It’s clear that these young Czech drivers, who have been rivals since their karting days, have a clear goal – to beat each other.

But the list of Czech drivers doesn’t end there. Teodor Borenstein returns to the F4 cockpit for Jenzer Motorsport after his debut in Slovakia. Gaining their first experience with the F4 car this year are F4 CEZ Academy members Marek Mičík and Michelle Jandová, one of three young ladies on the grid. The others are Polish drivers Michalina Sabaj from AS Motorsport and Kornelia Olkucka from Maffi Racing. The Swiss team will again field three cars for Kutskov, Olkucka, and Gabriel Holguin.

In addition to the Czech drivers, there are three Czech teams in the starting field. New to the championship is the F4 CEZ Academy club in AČR, fielding academy members Mičík and Jandová. The Orlen Janík Motorsport team has expanded its activities to F4 this year with Polish driver Franciszek Halatnik. Lastly, there is JMT Racing with Miroslav Mikeš.

The Hungarian Gender Racing Team will compete with Jean Paul Karras and Phillipe Armand Karras. The French brothers have so far focused on karting and are gradually moving to larger circuits.

The upcoming event at Most promises an exciting spectacle of young talented drivers. Most of them have a clear goal – to become a Formula 1 driver. However, this is a long journey that goes through Formula 3 and Formula 2. Nonetheless, F4 CEZ is the first step they can take towards their dream.
